1000 Book Club
ABOUT US
The mission of the 1000 Book Club Program is to provide quality literature to preschoolers and kindergartners while fostering a connection between home and school. The 1000 Book Club Program is a reading program designed for preschoolers, kindergartners and their families.
The program’s goals are:
-
To have quality literature readily available so that each child will hear 1000 stories.
-
To help children develop a lifetime love of reading and books.
-
To provide incentives for families to read with their children.
-
To create a positive link between home and school.
-
To ease the transition from preschool to kindergarten by frequent visits to Cole School or Vinal School for book bag selections and story times
The purpose for providing this program is that we believe that
-
reading begins in the home. …children acquire knowledge before coming to school which builds the foundation for reading.
-
research has shown that “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.”
-
we, at Cole School and Vinal School, can help parents promote reading in their homes by providing a free and easy way to obtain quality literature.

Special thanks to Beth Disque of Birchwood Elementary School in Niskayuna, NY and Laura Donovan of Plymouth River School in Hingham, MA. Their very successful 1000 Book Club Programs were our inspiration. They were very generous to share their knowledge and documents with us here at Cole School and Vinal School!
